The best locations for ads

The best locations for ads

To make your ads most effective, let's find the best places to put ads on your page.
  • The darker colored sections of the "heat map" below are more effective.
  • Ads "above the fold" (the area of the page visible without scrolling) tend to perform better than those below the fold.
  • Ads near rich content and navigational aids usually perform well.
While this heat map is useful as a positioning guideline, please remember that every site is different, and it may not applicable for all pages.

The best ad format

Here are a few basic rules for ad formats.
  • Wider formats are easier to read and more effective.
The wider format lets visitors comfortably read more text at a glance without having to skip to a new line every few words, as they'd need to do with a narrower ad.
  • Formats that can show image or video ads perform better.
The more types of ads that compete to show on your pages, the more you can earn.

Formats that support image and video ads:
    • Large Rectangle (336 x 280)
    • Medium Rectangle (300 x 250)

    Formats that support image ads:
    • leaderboard (728x90)
    • banner (468x60)
    • skyscraper (120x600)
    • square (250x250)
    • small square (200x200)
    • wide skyscraper (160x600)

  • Still not sure which format is right for you? These three formats have proven to perform the best:
    • Large Rectangle (336x280)
    • Medium Rectangle (300x250)
    • Wide Skyscraper (160x600)
Keep in mind that while these ad formats typically perform well, you should use the format that best complements your pages.

Choose ad colors that fit your site

Ads usually have better performance when customized to the ad colors of your site. Basic rules for fitting your ad colors to your site:
  • Make the background and borders of your ads the same color as the background of your page
  • If your site background is white, our pre-designed Open Air palette is a good start.
